Act 1 ending

Act I ends with Kael standing at the entrance to the underground ruins beneath Greyhaven.

Behind him, the town is changing.

Ahead of him, blue lightning pulses through ancient stone.

The metal device he recovered from the hidden chamber begins to speak.

“Primary operator confirmed.”
“Bloodline recognized.”
“Memory seal failing.”
“Revisionist pursuit active.”
“Welcome home, Kael Veyris.”

If Kael carries the chosen memory crystal, its surface opens like an eye. It shows him a brief image of Act II:

A vast chamber beneath the sea.

Mara Veyris chained to the heart of the Mnemonic Storm Engine.

The Editor standing beside her, holding a knife to her throat.

Then the vision changes.

Kael sees himself raising a hand filled with blue lightning.

He cannot tell whether he is saving his mother or killing her.

The stairway descends into darkness.

Somewhere below, the Mnemonic Storm Engine begins to turn.
